Wonderful Web Women

2 hours of virtual assistance for you

August 21st, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

There is no way I could have built Wonderful Web Women as quickly as I have without our growing team of Virtual Assistants. At the Quick Start Events in Sydney next week and LA next month I devote a whole session to building and managing a virtual team. I feel so strongly about this that I have negotiated with Kathie Thomas of www.vadirectory.net to gift the first 30 people who register for either event 2 hours of virtual assistance.

The event in Sydney is this Saturday (let me know if you want to squeeze in at the last minute). It is an intimate group and I’m excited about how much help I can give each participant. The LA workshop is booking and I expect to cut off the numbers to keep the group intimate again. Let me know if you can be there. http://www.wonderfulwebseminars.com

  • Mission: my lifestyle is supported by passive income

    August 20th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

Yesterday I was fortunate to interview Kirsty Dunphey. We had some terrible problems with the line so the recording has some weird bits in it, but excellent gems in amongst the buzzing! Kirsty shared her story of retiring when she was just 27. She had some real “take-away” attitude gems that I would like to share with you.

You can find out more about Kirsty, and get great discounts on her books (just for us) here:

Kirsty grew up as a true entrepreneur in a family of business people. A great example of her early entrepreneurial spirit was organising a birthday party for herself at 5 years of age, so she could score great presents. Only problem was, it wasn’t her birthday!

Interestingly, her wonderful business parent role models also gave her the resolve to be different to them.

Gem #1: Your past does not determine your future. You are not genetically predetermined to have a certain life plan. You can choose your own.

Kirsty shared with us that she was looking at her personal mission statement which was stuck near her phone. This is what it says:

Gem # 2: My lifestyle is supported by passive income Keeping this mission statement close to where she works keeps her focused on the outcome.

Kirsty retired at 27. When I asked her how she defines retirement, she said “I only work if I want to. My passive income supports my lifestyle”

Gem #3: Passive income gives you the choice of how you spend your time. Kirsty opens new on-line business, presents and writes because she chooses to, not because she has to.

Kirsty creates passive income through investing in real estate and creating  2 online businesses. (you can link to them here). She believes strongly in spreading her risk.

Gem #4: Always have a plan B In every venture Kirsty has started, she always had a plan B. If something didn’t work, she always knew she had something fulfilling to take it’s place.

Of course, this is just a fraction of what we covered. Kirsty shared the strategies she uses with her 2 web sites (2 different target markets), how she builds her lists and how she communicates with her list (great tip re using trivia questions). You can listen to the recording (sorry about the buzzy bits near the end) in the gold members area of Wonderful Web Women.

Here’s the ink again to Kirsty’s offer.

  • Free tele-conference services

    August 20th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

An update on the teleconferencing tool we use. http://www.thebasementventures.com is the free conference and recording software I have used for well over a year and still use. It works well for me. For a few weeks we couldn’t access the recordings (luckily we back up on Instant Tele-seminar) so Lisa on our team researched the other options. Just when we were ready to move, it all started working again. The Basement Ventures has the most features so I have decided to stick with it for the moment.

    However…..

Some people are still having problems. So I recommend http://www.nocostconference.com . It is very similar to the basement Ventures. The only difference is you can’t stay on the line, finish a recording, then start another one while still on the same line. You need to hang up, call in and start another recording. This probably won’t affect most people. It affects me because I record an interview, stop the recording, then open the lines for a general mastermind call Q & A and record that separately for our gold members. That’s the reason I have stayed with The Basement Ventures.

Another program you can use is http://www.freeconferencepro.com/

I was talking to Heather Vale the other day (I interviewed Heather last year about how to do great interviews). She has switched to this program. She says the MP3 recordings are not very good quality but the .wav recordings they also make available are very good quality. She relies on the recordings from Instant Teleseminar for her professional interviews but has free conference pro as a back up.

A thing I really like about http://www.freeconferencepro.com is you can personalise the message people hear when they first dial in. So this sounds really professional. Heather does this and when I rang her conference line the other day (she was interviewing me, how amazing to be on the other end of a great interviewer) I thought “wow, Heather is using a sophisticated system, must be expensive” but it was the free service. So that is a real plus I reckon.

I’d love to hear your experiences with using conference recording facilities. Cheers Janet

  • How To Put Soul In Your Business and Money In The Bank

    August 13th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

Yesterday I had the pleasure of interviewing Christine Kloser. Every time someone has contacted me to recommend I interview Christine, they use words like “opened my eyes”, “made me look at my business completely differently” and “life changing”. Now I know why.

We covered many things but today I’d like to share with you Christine’s 5 step freedom formula for the conscious entrepreneur.

    S: Soul in your business:

This is much more than the message you wish to convey through your business. You need to explore the reason you are in business and allow your business to become an extension of who you are.

    C: Connection

Christine talked about 2 important connections you need to make in your business.

The first one Christine admits is “out there” and not what you find in most books about business. Christine emphasized the importance of connecting with your source (you may call it God /  intuition / universal source / whatever works for you). Many times in business you need to take leaps of faith and Christine recommends you need to be connected with your source to be able to know when to trust and follow what feels right.

The other point of connection which many people get wrong is connection with your market. It is important to be truly authentic when communicating with your market. When you are putting soul into your business, yor message needs to be honest and authentic about who you are.

    D:  Design

Your business should support your lifestyle. Christine emphasised the importance of designing a business that when it grows, fits in with the lifestyle you want and is congruent with your values.

    I: Implement your business vision

This is all about action. The thing I like about Christine’s model is it is based on spirituality and personal development, and has a nice mix of logic and practicality thrown in. There is one thing to plan out a strong business, another to actually do it. Christine covers in her book steps to overcome procrastination and actually take action.

    E: Energy

This is the big multiplier. The more energy you can apply to the above 4 principles, the stronger and faster your business will grow. Christine refers to the following formula:

    (S + C+ D + I) x E = Freedom

She referred to the energy you get from your environment. This is not just your physical environment but the support environment you create around you. She gave Wonderful Web Women as an aexample of an environment that will support you when you are creating someting new. A place you can turn to for support and help (thanks Christine).

Christine is launching her book , The Freedom Formula, today through Amazon. If you purchase her book today (I just did) and enter your receipt number on this site, you will get access to 85 gifts from conscious entrepreneurs from around the world. People such as Neale Donald Walsch, Wayne Dyer, Jack Canfield, Marianne Williamson, Ali Brown and of course, Janet Beckers & Wonderful Web Women Gold member authors.

    www.freedomformulabook.com

For a limited time (the next 2 days) I have made the replays available to everyone for this interview. I mucked up the link I sent in your email (sorry)  so some people couldn’t listen to the web cast. In 2 days time it will only be available to Gold members of Wonderful Web Women. You can listen to it here:

  • 4 Steps To Get Paid To Write Online

    August 5th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

Today I interviewed Debbie Dragon about how to start a business as a ghost writer on-line. Debbie is a wonderful writer (I know as she is the ghost writer for Wonderful Web Women) with a fast growing business. She now helps other writers create a successful business using the Internet. Debbie has gifted us some fantastic resources to get started. These are usually only available to her paying clients but Debbie loves us so they are her gift to you. You can get them here: http://www.wonderfulwebwomen.com/recommends/debbie .

4 Steps To Get Paid To Write Online

    1. Know your goals

Debbie has gifted us her first e-class which helps you determine if you can work from home, what you will need and what type of business you are looking to create. You will need to approach this differently if you want to write for a few hundred dollars per month, or a few thousand dollars. http://www.wonderfulwebwomen.com/recommends/debbie

    1. Establish an Online Reputation

The nice thing about Debbie’s approach is you don’t need to have past clients to build a portfolio. Debbie recommends writing short articles on any topic you like and posting these to free article directories such as http://www.ezinearticles.com , http://www.isnare.com and http://www.goarticles.com .

At the end of each article there is a place for you to put your biography and links to your web page or blog (you need to get one of these). On your site have your contact details and further examples of your work.

    1. Find Work

Debbie makes this easy too. In the gift Debbie has given us is a list of web sites you can go to that advertise writing jobs. You can apply here for these contracts. Deb had an important point to make. In her experience it is not the most experienced person who gets the job. It is the person with the best presentation. In Debbie’s Gold membership, she includes quite a few classes on how to present on-line to win.

You can also find work through bidding sites such as www.elance.com and www.rentacoder.com . This is where Debbie started but be warned. You will need to bid lower than you like to win jobs on these sites but it is a great way to start and get a quality feedback rating on these sites.

    1. Find repeat business

Debbie recommended 2 industries which are “gold mines” for online writers. Internet Marketers and bloggers. Internet Marketers are great, especially if they are in the business of creating and selling e-books. You can expect to make between $200 and $3000 for an ebook, depending on the length, detail and amount of research needed. Internet Marketers know each other and refer. Bloggers will need to have lots and lots of short articles written and it can be on some varied and interesting topics. You can find them by visiting blogs and forums that provide resources to help bloggers learn more about blogging.

Debbie recommends offering good clients in these industries a special price they can offer their customers. This makes them look good and also sends you new clients.

This is just a small fraction of what we covered today. The recordings will be available with 24 hours in the Gold members’ area. (poor Lisa needs to sticky tape together 3 recordings because the line dropped out 3 times AHHH!!!). Make sure you download the excellent gifts Debbie has given us. You can get them here: http://www.wonderfulwebwomen.com/recommends/debbie

    Cheers Janet

  • Why email is like plumbing - Part 3

    August 4th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

On Friday 1st August Wonderful Web Women turned 1. I can hardly believe it. Jan “The Wonderful Money Woman” had filled the office with balloons, friends came with champagne and I sat down to write you an email to tell you about our birthday competition - and then I saw it.

The email I sent the night before had gone into some “Ground Hog Day” (have you seen the movie?) loop and had been sending the same email out over and over and over. AHHH!!! OK, so my reaction may have been one of panic but I’m sure you can understand. This took me back to a few months ago when something very similar happened. So I knew how bad it could get but I also knew there was a solution. You can read what happened last time and the way we solved it in these other 2 articles.
    http://wonderfulwebwomen.com/blog/2008/what-do-emails-and-plumbing-have-in-common/
    http://wonderfulwebwomen.com/blog/2008/why-email-is-like-plumbing-part-2/

    Why emaiil is like plumbing

You know, this problem is just like when the faucet blows on your kitchen tap. You know, where the water comes out. You can’t get the tap to screw back in and water gushes everywhere, creating a disaster. The only thing you can do is turn off the water at the mains while you get in a plumber.

That’s just like this problem. We deleted the email from the system. Didn’t work.
If people unsubscribed (mass unsubscribes = marketers worst nightmare) it didn’t work because the emails were not playing by human’s rules.

Only solution: Bring in the big plumbers. Our wonderful web host, Kenneth Fox from www.wonderfulwebhosting.com came to the rescue and our new best friends in India, Kunal and Satyender who created our software came too. This really emphasised the importance I discussed in my last articles of developing a relationship with your key internet suppliers.

We are so lucky to have brought in Charly Leetham to our team recently. Charly is our new Tech Support Wonder Woman and she has now been baptised by fire! So great to have a plumbing contractor who can talk plumbing speak with our suppliers!

It turns out our problem was slightly different this time. Now, we had overextended the memory limit that is usual for a web host to set. When we send out an email, the system collects all the email addresses and the the newsletter, stores it all in it’s memory and then sends it out. It seems as if it coud only store a certain amount of info then reached it’s limit. So it sent out the emails and tried again etc etc etc. AHHH!!! So some people got bombarded with emails, and some never heard from us.

So that’s my non-technie explanation for you.

Thank you so much for you understanding, we only received kind emails. You can read about why this happened in this blog post and how we solved it. But there is always a positive in Janet’s World :)

We discovered the reason we had the problem is because we have grown the be the largest and most successful web site using this software (the developers told us they were proud of us, isn’t that sweet). So we are like the canary down the coal mine. We discover the problems and they get fixed so people we work with to create their membership sites won’t experience the pain.
    So thanks for your patience.

I have had some great feedback from members who were on our call today with Kathleen Gage. The overall reponse was one of gratitude as Kathleen dispelled many of the myths of making money on-line and outlined simple steps to build an Internet business that would stand the test of time.

In fact the word BUSINESS is the point Kathleen stressed throughout her call and I can’t agree with her enough. We hear so much hype about “make $50,000 with your first campaign with one product” that is it easy to believe that making money on the Internet completely ignores the rules that work for making money off-line. It’s rubbish of course. Sure, an Internet business is fantastic because you can work from home and have very small start-up costs (which is why I love the Internet), but if you intend to make consistent income, then you are starting a business.

A very generous offer (thanks Kathleen)

Kathleen excelled herself today. Not only did she provide great content but she put together a product offer that is incredibly generous. It is perfect if you are starting out and an incredibly ethical product in that it provides you with the foundations to create a BUSINESS on the Internet, not just a website. As well as more that $350 worth of product for just $99, Kathleen has bonused the first 20 people who buy her pack a one-on-one, 20 minute, laser focused coaching session with her. This alone is worth more than the cost of the product and will save you an incredible amount of wasted energy. This offer is to be used within 30 days to make sure you take action!

Here is just a small list of the things we covered today. Gold members can download the recordings with 24 hours (usually sooner).

How to make the Internet Work For You

    1. Commit to the long term. You are building a business so plan to build your business for the long term and not some quickly created (and quickly forgotten) project.

    2. Invest in training - you will want to learn a lot of things yourself but when you identify an area of expertise you need to master (for example how to run a tele-seminar), invest in learning from an expert. This will cut your learning curve dramatically

    3. Build a solid foundation - Kathleen shared that in her first campaign, she made about $50 and thought it was great. Now when she launches a campaign she makes $50,000. This would not be possible if she had not built up her relationship with her customers and with her vendors over time.

    4. Identify your market If you think everyone can be your customer you will go broke. You need to identify who needs your services and who you want as your customer. This will allow you to focus your marketing. Another good point Katherine mentioned that is the most important characteristic of your target market. They must have the money to pay you! Remember, you are in business.

    5. Survey your customers One of the most powerful questions you can ask your customers and potential customers is “what is your biggest problem with …..”. Once you know their problems you can find solutions . This may be by creating your own products or (especially when you start) referring other people’s products as an affiliate.

    6. You have a moral obligation to sell . This comment is one that many of our listeners resonated with. If you have a solution to a customer’s problem you have a moral obligation to sell that product through your business. This is a concept I know a lot of us struggle with. This concept turns around selling from the view of “taking” to the view of “giving”

    7. Enthusiastically pay your suppliers If you always search for freebies you will always attract freebie seekers as customers.

    8. Treat the Internet as a business. This is the over-riding message Katherine shared with us. So get an accountant, find out about business and marketing plans. These are the things you would do with an offline business. The same thing is true for an on-line business

I’d love to hear your views on what Kathleen covered today. If you are just starting out, or been dabbling and not really making money yet, then I highly recommend you  invest in Kathleen’s offer and make sure you take up her offer of one-on-one coaching time.

    Cheers

    Janet
