 I have been involved in yoga for the past 26 years. I have been teaching yoga for the past 15 years. Yoga has undergone an evolution in the western world. A lot of the things that have happened are really good, others I don't agree with.
I was lucky enough to be able to incorporate yoga wherever I worked. (Women's health centres, a Community Centre, a Family Support Centre and a Women's Refuge). I either taught classes or I ran stress management and other self development courses. I also have a Diploma of Naturopathy and Natural and Health, Healing and Yoga are a very powerful combination.
After being around home for over 7 years raising my child, I am ready to share my extensive experience with the world. To this end I started my yoga blog. It will be targeting women at different stages of their lifecycle. I want it to become a useful resource for women when they need extra help and support or when they simply need some time out.
In my own little way I want to make the world a more calm, friendly and peaceful place.

 I have spent over 20 years in the IT Industry working first as a field tech making computers talk to each other and later as a Contract / Account / Business Development Manager.
My unique skillset enables me to translate "Geek" to normal person speak and I enjoy the challenge of helping people use IT to gain their personal and business goals.
I actually started in IT before it was called IT, it was electronics then, and have seen so many technological changes my head just spins. I was, and often still am, the only female within the immediate work area and have been challenged by what that means. The adage "You've got to be twice as good to be considered half as good" is true - but I was 10 times as good and the boys strove to outdo me! My bosses loved it!
Through my life journey, I have discovered that I love putting people together with a solution. I believe I'm a great salesperson because I don't just want to sell a product, I want to provide a solution that will help people "scratch that itch". I have an ability to see an issue and find the solution.
I have also run several retail stores over the last four years, at one time managing four stores (three located in Canberra, 1 in Sydney). We sold the last of the stores in August 2007 and whilst financially the result wasn't brilliant, the experience I gained was AMAZING! This is a lesson I now take into the next phase of my journey.
My goal now is to develop my online business to generate income to repay the business loans I am still carrying, my own mortgages and provide sufficient income so that I can help both sets of parents "do what they want", whilst helping my children reach and achieve more than I have. I realise the enormity of this goal but have faith and an enduring belief that I will prevail.

Marika has had an interesting life where every day was an adventure. Having lived on an island (with water access only) for 14 years with her husband and 2 young children, life was anything but ordinary. There were storms to endure, sinking boats, lack of water and sometimes a sense of exhaustion from carrying absolutely everything (including building materials, groceries, children and dog).
But there was also abundant fun, enduring friendships, adventure every day, a feeling of freedom and a huge sense of achievement. It is these things that inspire one to take the next challenge.
Marika has many years of travel experience to various places and with a love for the great outdoors, learning about different cultures and making new friends, she is always ready for the next challenge. In her 40's she decided to finally learn how to fly, a deep seated desire that has always been there. Over the years Marika has tried all forms of flight including jumping from a plane with only a parachute, taking lessons on a single engine plane, flying a no engine sailplane, being a passenger on a very tiny ultralight aircraft, and jumping off cliffs with a paraglider.
Paragliding has become her preferred method of flight, with around 100 hours of airtime behind her; Marika plans to fly for as long as she is able to walk. The freedom this form of flight offers is amazing and is as close to free flight that we humans have been able to achieve so far. If you are interested in trying paragliding, Marika can point you in the right direction. |
