Wonderful Web Forum Moderators

There is an opportunity to take a leadership position in The Wonderful Web Group by becoming a Wonderful Web Forum Moderator. Read on the find out more....

What is the Wonderful Web Forum?

You can visit the forum over at www.WonderfulWebForum.com . This is the place for members to help each other, discuss ideas, and find help to problems. It is open to every one on the Internet but mostly it is members of Wonderful Web Women, Wonderful Web Ideas, Wonderful Web Seminars, Wonderful Web..well you get the idea.

It is a separate site to all of our membership sites, which means people have to register for the forum at www.WonderfulWebForum.com.

What is a moderator?

A moderator "looks after" a sub-forum of Wonderful Web Forum. This means they keep the discussion and buzz going and make sure new people are made to feel welcome. They also make sure everyone plays by the rules.

They do not "own" a sub-forum. They are the host / hostess not the gate-keeper. This is why we have 2 to 4 moderators per sub-forum.

What makes a great moderator?

The following a characteristics of a great moderator:

  • Kindness and courtesy
  • A willingness to help
  • Caring about the community and its members
  • Fairness + consistency
  • Able to collaborate well with the Wonderful Web Team
  • Sense of fun
What's Involved?

  • Your responsibility is to start discussions, encourage communication by posing questions and topics to talk about and generally get your topic area buzzing.
  • You MUST post at least once per week with a thread that will start discussion. This could be a question, topical thought etc.
  • You are also expected to reply to posts by other members. You don't have to know the answers, just give encouragement and acknowledgement. You can point them towards resources to help them, especially articles, audio and videos on Wonderful Web Women which they may not have realised they already have access to.
  • Your other responsibility is to keep an eye on spammers and let our "head moderator" (Wonder Moderator) know so they can jump on it quick.
  • On many forums, moderators also can move and delete posts. You don't have to worry about that. If any of these things need to happen it is your responsibility to let the "Wonder Moderator" know and they can do that. We just want you to concentrate on building the community.
  • You will be expected to be consistently active on the forum and give real value.
  • Please remember that this forum is only possible because it is created, maintained, paid for and nurtured by Wonderful Web Women and associated sites. This means that it is a community based around those sites, not a community based around your own web site and business. This means, if you start a discussion around a blog post, tele-seminar or article, it should be around a post or article or teleseminar delivered through The Wonderful Web Group of sites, not your own, or other marketer's site.

What's in it for you?

  • You will be recognised as having a position of leadership and have the opportunity to demonstrate how knowledgeable and/or enthusiastic you are
  • The exposure you get through this process will, without fail, lead to new customers and joint venture partners
  • Once you have completed your trial period of one month, you will be featured on Wonderful Web Forum in a new section called "Meet our Moderators". This is an exclusive area for you to profile your business
  • Separate forum area just for moderators to discuss ideas

Who should apply?

  • You don't need to be an expert in a topic, just enthusiastic
  • Preference will be given to people who have contributed to discussions in the forum, and been helpful
  • Preference will be given to gold members because you will be so much more familiar with the resources to help fellow members

How to apply?

  • Please email us through the contact page with the subject line "forum moderator application"
  • Tell us why you are interested in being a moderator
  • what forum topic areas you are most interested in (you can moderate more than one)
  • How often you expect you could post to the forum
  • Any ideas you have to make your forum area fun

Why is there a trial period?

This is a leadership opportunity in our community and is a privilege. This first month will let our team decide if your moderation style works well for our forum. It will also help you decide if being a moderator is "right" for you.

Every 3 months we will review with you if your moderation style still contributes to the forum and also let you decide if you want to continue. You may also decide that you enjoy contributing to the community so much that you decide to take up other leadership opportunities as they arise.

Some ideas to be a great moderator.

  • Open discussion on a topic that was raised in the Wonderful Web Newsletter or in our expert interviews
  • Post a summary of something you have learnt
  • Ask a question - eg, what is the best way to build a mailing list?
  • Post links to inspiring or funny videos
  • Run a competition (contact Janet & the team for ideas on prizes)
  • Run a poll

Some guidelines to help you as a moderator

  • All contributors to the forum are to be treated with great respect and kindness. For many, this is the first forum they have contributed to and they are learning the ropes. It is your job to help them build confidence.
  • If another contributor ridicules or criticizes another member in the forum (which means they are not treating others with respect and kindness), please PM them and let them know that our forum is one of support. They are welcome to stay if they play nicely. Contact the "Wonder Moderator" who will decide if harmful posts need to be removed.
  • NB: This does not mean that everyone has to agree with every one else. How boring is that! Open discussion is encouraged, but no personal attacks.
  • No question is too stupid
  • The forums are not to be used for blatant selling, especially of affiliate products. Even in the forums that this is allowed, the person posting must be contributing to the forum with discussion, not just placing an advertisement.
  • The only forums that people are free (and indeed encouraged) to self promote are the following forums:
  • Introduce Yourself
  • Showcase Your Site
  • If you pay me I can help you with...
  • If someone does blatantly spam or sell without contribution, please send them a PM (don't humiliate them in public). Most often this happens because they are new to forums and will be hugely embarrassed to find they have broken etiquette. Let them know gently that they need to contribute to discussion and ask them to share with us all a bit more about themselves.
  • Of course, if there is awful, consistent spam and especially tasteless sexist spam, contact the "Wonder Moderator" and they will remove the post and possibly the member.
  • These rules must apply to EVERYONE, please do not play favorites!!
  • The rules also apply to YOU.
  • You are not paid to do this job, so please don't take yourself too seriously.
  • Check all the forums for potential problems, even if the post isn't in your forum. We can head off a lot of problems if we help each other.
