5. Story behind Wonderful Web Women |
| Q. | When did you first think of creating this web site | |
| Ans. | In March 2006 I attended World Internet Summit in Sydney for 4 days.4 days of excellent speakers and not a single one of them female! I ran 2 surveys over the 4 days:
1. I went home the first night and created a survey web site called "Women's Internet Summit" and asked people what questions they want me to ask successful internet women if I can find them. (one of the contributors to the survey was Brett McFall who was running World Internet Summit at the same time. Fortunately he has a good sense of humour). I had quite a lot of responses and one of them was from Jennie Armato, an experienced internet marketer who eventually became one of our first Wonderful Web Women. Jennie not only encouraged me but also offered to introduce me to successful women who she new.
2. I ran an informal survey in the women's loos
The result of both surveys?
Where are the women? We need role models!
So that's where the seed was planted.
| | | Q. | How did you get all these wonderful women to agree to take part in Wonderful Web Women? | |
| Ans. | Simple. I asked. I met a few of these wonderful women when they spoke at conferences (though initially they were in the audience until the conference organisers starting noticing these successful women). Other women I simply emailed, usually using one women's referral to the next one. Without fail, every woman I contacted accepted. They just seem to genuinely want to help other women succeed. I am very grateful to them for their generosity.
It also helped to be very clear in my communication about the goals of this project, what they can expect from me and what I can expect from them.
