I often wonder what makes some people so much more successful than others. Talking to Alexandria Brown helped me see that keeping it simple is often the best way to reach your goals and become very successful.
Ali Brown is the authority for driving sales using email publishing- in fact, she has been named the “Ezine Queen” for her success in earning over one million dollars with email marketing. It’s actually quite funny how she ended up with this title- it basically happened by accident!
About 7 years ago, Ali was working in a small ad agency in New York City and living in an even smaller apartment in Greenwich Village. She was one of those people who always wanted to improve things, and would even make suggestions to her bosses and co-workers about changes that could be made. Basically, she was told to get in her cubicle, do her work, and be quiet! That’s when she realized she was actually an entrepreneur and she needed to work for herself.
So Ali started the hard way- trying to market herself to everyone she met, and pounding the pavement of New York City until she realized she hadn’t tried using her computer and email to get the word out. Once she began sending out a weekly marketing tip, she watched her business expand really quickly and was given her “Ezine Queen” nickname.
If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering how you get people on a mailing list to start with. Turns out, Ali started with just a handful of people (and her Cat!) on her mailing list- and one thing led to another and soon people were forwarding her weekly tips to friends and family around the world- which is what makes email marketing so effective!
I learned heaps from talking with Queen Ali, but I think the best advice she gave was how she made her business decisions based on thinking about her business as being more successful than it really was. So when she was a $300,000 a year business, she would make her decisions as if she was a million dollar business- and that just fueled her business growth. I think we can all benefit from this little tidbit of information! And, of course, Ali stresses the importance of having fun with your business- there is no point doing what you do if you don’t love it, and I’m guessing that has played a bigger role in Ali Brown’s success story than we might think!
